RUN is a novel about Bo, a girl from a family with a bad reputation around town, and Agnes, a blind girl from a well off family. It’s a coming of age story of two girls from two different sides of town who grow just by getting to know and understand each other.
The novel is told from both girl’s perspectives at different points in time. We very rarely see the same situation from both of their perspectives. Agnes takes us through how their friendship developed, while Bo tells the story of after they run away after something happens to her. We slowly learn the extent of their home life troubles as the story progresses and although they are very different, they are both important.
The characters were well written, each with their own flaws an backstory that had an effect on how they made decisions. We also get a glimpse into their parents, the town they love in and the effect that they have on Agnes and Bo and their friendship.
The story is great. It takes a few turns I wasn’t expecting and really brought you into their world. It was interesting, but was a great length. It couldn’t really have gone on much longer without dragging out so I was glad it was a reasonably short novel.
If you haven’t read this or any of Kody Keplinger’s other books, but like contemporary novels about young adults, you should check them out. She also wrote The DUFF and Lying Out Loud.
