I’m a big fan of the Bond films, so when I saw that a new book was coming out, I was super keen. Plus, I love a good spy story anyway.
This is the first Bond novel I’ve ever read, so I can’t speak for how Anthony Horowitz’s writing differs from Ian Fleming’s. What I can tell you is that Horowitz is an amazing writer. I’ve read some of his work before, as he also wrote the Alex Rider series and the TV show Midsomer Murders.
He sets a great scene and winds a great tale of suspense and adventure. Every sentence adds to the story. This makes it a super easy and quick read. The characters are well developed already from the series, but having not read the rest of the books, I could only pick up on the mannerisms and little tidbits Horowitz provided. It was a well told story, with believable twists and turns.
Trigger Mortis follows Bond through an exciting tale, after narrowing surviving his last mission. It features high speed racing, romance and a few close calls with death, plus an ending that surprised me. I really enjoyed this one. I was reading it for hours at a time.
If you’re a Bond fan, you’ll be happy that M, Moneypenny and Pussy Galore also feature in this one. If you’re into spy films and novels, or just a bit of a mystery, check it out.
Thanks to Hachette NZ for my copy for review.
